Kitchen Nightmare: Part 2
Let me just say that my level of confidence in baking fluctuated a lot this past weekend.  My usual route for new recipes is a read through of one recipe over and over until I am positive I have the basic steps down.  After that I’ll compare it with other recipes to make sure I’m in the right ballpark.  3 similar recipes is my limit.  For my dad’s birthday, I decided on a Boston...

Kitchen Nightmare: Part 1
I’ve had other kitchen nightmares but this one will be my first record of how badly things have gone.  It was my dad’s birthday over the weekend and I was determined to cook him a decent brunch and a cake in the same day.  It sounded doable, all I needed were reliable recipes and I was set.  This is how my morning went.  The evening’s catastrophe needed a post on its own (Part...

"It's (really) a cake called a pie."
Lewis: What are you on about? Me: Boston Cream Pie Lewis: A cake is a cake, a pie is a pie.  (After he saw the picture and read the description) Lewis: It’s not grammatically correct! But it looks moist as @#$% though.

Boston Cream Pie and Eggs Benedict
It’s my Dad’s birthday today!  My sisters and I are working on brunch and his birthday cake.  I’ve been eyeing a Boston Cream Pie for ages on 17 & Baking for a while.  Elissa has such an elegant blog and her recipes look fairly doable.  I hope my attempt at her pastry cream and chocolate ganache work out!  Pictures and tips coming soon!

That's Sweet! Review: Cupcake Tasting
Today on a whim, my family decided to go to the farmers market in Newark.  I’m so glad we did, there was a line of food trucks set up behind the market complete with a live band and tables to sit at.  It was a great Sunday afternoon!  After finishing off our lunch, my sisters and I made room for the dessert truck: That’s Sweet!   That’s Sweet! is a bakery that resides in Palo...

12 Most Contaminated Produce →
This is horrifying. I wish we could use less pesticides on our fruits and vegetables.  I can understand why my family would try and wash fruit with a little bit of soap if possible, if not warm water.  Apples are on the top of their list :(.
