My 100th

It’s so easy to post on Tumblr, you get carried away about how many links, videos, pictures, or quotes you share.  So anyway, this is my 100th.  I think over spring break I may have increased my body mass due to eating out so much.  It made me miss eating at home.  I can’t even say I went out to eat the best of foods, didn’t really try anything out of the ordinary.  So for now I’m trying to adjust calorie intake (for good).  I’m budgeting and so far it’s been good.

My guilty pleasures are still stalking food blogs and imagining what my kitchen would look like if I attempted a new recipe.  I was going on a sweet tooth streak during finals but now I’m on the savory hunt.  I’m a little obsessed with sun dried tomatoes, avocados, and artichoke right now.  Boy does that sound good with linguine pasta with a light cream sauce.  I haven’t cooked anything in a while and the last time I made anything was the upside down pineapple cake.  Definitely have to make something, especially since it’s early in the quarter.  I would love trying to stuff chicken breasts (hah) or pork with a side of wild rice.  Sadly I can’t cook much with an electric stove.  If anyone can find a cookbook dedicated to types of stovetops and ovens, send it my way!

Gobstopper's Delight → thatguywiththeglasses.com

After looking at these photos and reading how long it took the author to finish this, it made me want some candy.  Smaller gobstoppers, please.

It's still egg-cellent

You all know I meant excellent right?  Here’s a tip on how to determine if that carton of eggs in your fridge is still good or not.  I learned this from my biochemistry class believe it or not.  As the eggs age, the pocket of air inside the egg tends to get bigger.  Without cracking the egg, you can see if the egg is still fresh or not by using a glass of water.  Make sure it’s not any sort of fancy water or has salt in it, tap will do.

  1. Place the un-cracked egg in the glass or water and make sure there’s more water than the egg.
  2. Look for any floatage.  Eggs that float will tend to stick the bigger end towards the top.
  3. A fresher egg will sink at the bottom because the air pocket is small inside.  An egg that is about a week old will bobble a little but will not float to the very top of the glass.  And an old egg will most likely end up at the top, which is bad, it’s past a week with it’s expiration date.

I wouldn’t risk the food poisoning, especially if a dozen eggs usually go for less than $2 at Trader Joe’s.  Spare the stomach ache and don’t be cheap.  That’s my advice for the day.

Little pockets of love

I have had so much bread this past weekend. If you guys haven’t gone to Costco for their La Brea bread, you’re missing out. Lewis and I got to sample delicious garlic bread with sweet roasted cloves. Along with the garlic bread we also had the Rosemary bread which made me flashback to the bread they make at Macaroni Grill. It was a mix and match deal with two loaves for $4.49. I couldn’t say no. I immediately made eggs and helicopter toast with sun dried tomato hummus this morning.

Last week I bought cinnamon bread from Trader Joe’s and made French toast this morning too. Along with that slew of bread, we went to JJ Bakery and 85 Degrees for sweet bread; not in the same day of course.

I realized I cut out more rice than bread if anything these days. There has been a lot more fruit though!

Foodie Questions

  1. Has anyone ever made banana pudding or have had it?
  2. What about Nilla wafers in a tiramisu in place of lady fingers?
  3. And if not Nilla wafers, where do you find lady finger cookies?
